Virtual Program: Lucky Dragon No. 5: Hollywood and the Atom Bomb

January 14 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

From Godzilla to Dr. Strangelove: How film and TV reflected and amplified America’s exprience of the Cold War. The bomb and nuclear energy have been the inspiration for comedy, propaganda, melodrama, satire, and more over the years, often as a response to current events, and sometimes anticipating them. As Americans dug fall-out shelters and their kids ducked under their desks in air-raid drills, Hollywood covered the entire human experience, well past the Cold War and into today’s time.

Join us for this illustrated talk with lecturer David Davison, who has presented dozens of talks at museums and libraries throughout Connecticut. Tune in for his next talk, What Were the Russians Watching? on Thursday February 14th at 4PM to further explore this fascinating topic.
