Digital Program: What Were the Russians Watching?

FreeWhile Americans watched monsters and aliens in the movies and on TV during the Cold War, Russians had a very different experience. When Stalin was still alive, the movies gave Russians a unique and peculiar viewpoint on America and its culture (hint — they loved it). With the dramatic success of Sputnik, Soviet Space Culture provided an inspirational period of optimism and self-confidence that helped foment peaceful outreach to the West. Its legacy sustains Russian pride and culture to this day.
Join us for this illustrated talk with lecturer David Davison, who has presented dozens of talks at museums and libraries throughout Connecticut. This talk is a follow-up to his presentation last month: Hollywood and the Atom Bomb.
