Glow, Baby, Glow! Bioluminescence in Nature and Science

Have you ever wondered what makes fireflies glow? Or maybe you have visited a bioluminescent bay in the Caribbean and wondered what makes the water glow?
Join us on Thursday, August 3 from 6-7:30pm at DPNC for a fun and fascinating look at jellies, fish, fireflies and other animals capable of producing their own light and how it is being used in science and medicine.
Marc Zimmer, Connecticut College professor of environmental chemistry and author of Bioluminescence; Illuminating Disease, Glowing Genes: A Revolution in Biotechnology (and other books, both scholarly and light–pun intended!) will share how these amazing creatures use their florescent proteins and how that is being used in cancer research.
This program is for adults and interested teenagers. $8.50 members, $10 non-members.
