North Stonington Historical Society’s Cemeteries Open House

North Stonington’s 124 cemeteries and burial sites provide a remarkable record of our community’s history. From the Indigenous people who lived here long before the town was established, to the early settlers who cleared the land and built their lives here, to the generations of residents who have served their families, community, and country, these sites tell the stories of the people who shaped North Stonington.
Join us at our November Second-Saturday Open House as we discuss all things relating to North Stonington cemeteries and the stories within them.
Cemetery Commission Chair Robert Dean will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate proper headstone-cleaning techniques. Our library researchers will help locate gravesites, explore the meaning of the symbols on the headstones and their arrangement in the cemeteries.
We will also share information about the Revolutionary War patriots buried in North Stonington, honoring their lives and contributions to our nation’s founding.
