Summer at The IRONS

We had the opportunity to visit The IRONS restaurant at the recently renovated Hilton Mystic and sampled their new summer menu. We are super impressed with the strong local inspiration behind the food and atmosphere. The décor and design are modernly nautical Mystic. Neat details throughout made us feel like we were surfing the pages of Pinterest! Well done!

The gastro-pub offers a wide selection of American comfort food, great burgers, fresh seafood, along with some gluten free options. The restaurant has a bar with scads of counter seats, comfy tufted booths, cafe and pub tables, and even a relaxed patio courtyard with loungey seating, fire pit and string lights to set the perfect mood.

The 95 Taster, a flight of local beers on tap, is a satisfying way to experience the exploding craft beer scene along the Connecticut shoreline (I-95). Brews from Groton’s Outerlight Brewing Company, Stonington’s Beer’d, Branford’s Stony Creek, and Stratford’s Two Road Brewing Company made the cut.

The chef sent out the Lobster Poutine, a pile of crisp frites topped with local cheese curds from Stone Meadow Farm, fried up and paired with hefty chunks of lobstah and other good stuff that makes your mouth water.

The firecracker shrimp are crispy n’ tender with a pop of heat atop fresh Thai slaw.

The pork on the pulled pork pizza is brought in from nearby Stony Ledge Farm and smoked in-house.

The menu offers loads of appetizers and entrees to satisfy a seafood fix, and the local Stonington dayboat scallops sourced from Sea Well Seafood are dreamy.

The desserts come from Downtown Mystic’s popular bakery, Sift Bake Shop, so rest assured they please the sweet tooth. Love this collaboration!

Service at The IRONS was attentive and friendly, atmosphere charming, the food and drink hit the spot! Find some time this summer to visit this hidden gem across Coogan Boulevard from Mystic Aquarium and Olde Mistick Village. We will definitely be back!
