Mystic Seaport will be offering a new behind-the-scenes tour of the Charles W. Morgan and Henry B. duPont Preservation Shipyard this winter. Tours will be offered from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning January 3 and ending February 8.
Participants will receive a guided tour of the current projects in the shipyard, including the restoration of the 1908 steamboat Sabino and the museum’s special guest, Plimoth Plantation’s 57-year-old replica galleon Mayflower II. Visitors will get an up-close look at the vessels and learn details about their history and the work being done on them. Visitors will also board the museum’s flagship, the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan for a detailed presentation of whaling and the ship’s remarkable 173-year-old history.
Tours will begin and end at the museum’s main entrance. The tours are $10 for Mystic Seaport members and $12 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 860.572.5331. Reservations are encouraged, although walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis.
The museum is still closed to general visitors from January 2-February 13.
