Free Raptor Education Program at StoneRidge
10/22/2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Free
Doris Mager, “The Eagle Lady,” a 93-year-old environmentalist and raptor educator and activist, will be making a stop at StoneRidge Senior Living Community with E.T., her beloved great horned owl, on Tuesday, October 22 at 10. a.m. on her farewell education tour.
Mager, a Connecticut native, is founder of Save Our American Raptors (S.O.A.R.), a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of birds of prey through advocacy and education. In the 1980s, Mager earned her title of “The Eagle Lady” after living in an eagle’s nest, cradled 50 feet above the ground in a pine tree, for a week to raise money to build an aviary at Florida Audubon Society. At the age of 60, Mager rode her bike across the country to protest the use of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, the pesticide commonly known as DDT.
Mager will be talking about the important role that raptors play in the ecosystem and sharing stories about her rich life as a conservator, rehabilitator and educator. The event is free and open to all ages, however, attendees should be aware that E.T. will fly and swoop during the presentation. Guests from the audience may also be asked to participate. Advanced reservations are required and can be made by calling Sandra Pasieka at (860) 572-4494.
