Trails and Hiking in the Mystic Area

Bluff Point State Park

Popular walking, mountain biking, picnic, fishing and beach area located just outside of Mystic in Groton. Bluff Point is a State Park, and is free to the public. There is limited parking which may fill up in the summer months. Dog friendly (excluding the beach area during bird nesting months). Views of the Long Island Sound and wooded and coastal trails.

Barn Island

Wildlife Management Area is  One of the most picturesque trails on the  Southeastern Connecticut shoreline located in Stonington, Barn Island is perfect for leisurely walking, running, etc. There is a boat launch and parking is first come first serve. Expect to see water, marsh, and wooded views.

Haley Farm State Park

Haley Farm is located in Groton (minutes from Downtown Mystic) and connects to Bluff Point State Park and the parks combined offer over 1000 acres of trails suitable for walking, biking, running etc.

Harkness Memorial State Park

Coastal State park located in nearby Waterford, CT approximately 25 minutes from Mystic. Harkness Park is beautiful place to walk, photograph, picnic, fish and enjoy. Swimming is not permitted at Harkness. It’s also a popular wedding venue. The mansion “Eolia” was built on the grounds in 1906 and belonged to the Harkness Family. The gates at Harkness Memorial State Park open at 8:00 am and close at sunset, year round.
