Murmur: Arctic Realities – An Augmented Reality Exhibit at Mystic Seaport

The future is now at Mystic Seaport!

Mystic Seaport’s newest exhibit in the Collins Gallery of the Thompson Exhibition Building explores Arctic land forms known as pingos.

Visitors 13 and older can experience the pingo and its surroundings through mixed reality using Microsoft’s Hololens. Water, ice, and organism animations can be seen through the headset as if they are in the room, and audio samples complete the experience. The large sculpture, made of Alaskan yellow cedar, is just under half the size of an actual pingo land form.
