Talk with Andy Peters: Insights from Britain’s Last Shipcarver
October 5 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Describing himself as “Britain’s last shipcarver,” Andy Peters is a traditional woodcarver of the highest level, having attained mastery of nearly vanished skills and a deep understanding of the technical, cultural, and historic aspects of European ship decoration during the 17th through 19th centuries. As an author of two books about this golden age of shipcarving, Andy passes his insight to future generations. He is connected to practitioners of many other rare and high-level maritime skills involved in historic ship preservation and sail training. On Saturday, October 5, at 3:30 p.m., Mystic Seaport Museum will host Andy Peters’ public presentation in the Meeting House as he speaks about his life’s work as shipcarver for Europe’s traditional sailing ships, restoring many ancient figureheads, and now designing and carving exquisite decorations for large yachts and mega yachts.
