Mystic’s Celebration of Black Literature

February is Black History Month, and the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Mystic & Noank Library to celebrate with a look into Black literature. The Chamber and Library are inviting notable speakers, local residents, and students to read inspiring authors from Black authors at this celebration held outdoors at Mystic River Park. The Library will create a display featuring books at all reading levels to encourage students, who will also be invited to read and share excerpts at this celebration of Black literature.

The format for reading will be one to five minutes, which includes an introduction by the reader of why they chose their piece or how a particular author inspired their original presentation. These reasons for selecting a work of literature can often be as good as the excerpt!

In case of inclement weather, Mystic’s Celebration of Black Literature will be held on February 26 at Mystic River Park instead. The Chamber and Library will promote the readings prior to the event.
