Mystic Seaport’s Adventure Series Searches for the Bonhomme Richard
The quest for the remains of the American warship Bonhomme Richard will be the focus of a presentation by Melissa Ryan at Mystic Seaport on Thursday, November 20. Ryan is the project manager and chief scientist for the Ocean Technology Foundation, the organization spearheading a massive undersea search to find the historic Revolutionary War vessel.
Sunk in a ferocious battle off England’s Flamborough Head in the North Sea in 1779, the Bonhomme Richard is an iconic symbol of American naval might and the ship that made her commander, Capt. John Paul Jones, a household name.
Ryan will speak about her personal experiences leading a complex and collaborative international operation involving vessels of the U.S. Navy and the French Navy, underwater robots, teams of divers, a submarine, and the latest ocean technologies.
Presentations are at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the River Room at Latitude 41° Restaurant & Tavern. Tickets are $20 ($15 for Mystic Seaport members). Students with ID are admitted for free. Please call (860) 572-5331 to purchase tickets.
