Meet Margu: A Child of the Amistad

02/29/2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Free

Experience the life of Sarah Margu, one of four children held captive on the schooner Amistad, at a storytelling event at the Bill Memorial Library on Saturday, February 29 at 1 p.m.
A joint production of Connecticut Humanities and the Connecticut Storytelling Center, the event features actor and storyteller Tammy Denease, who portrays Margu from childhood to adulthood. Though she missed the rite of passage to adulthood in her native Sierra Leone, Margu gained freedom through a victory in the United States legal system and became the first African to graduate from college in America (Oberlin College, Ohio). This poignant portrayal is approximately 60 minutes long, followed by a question and answer session.
This event is free but registration is required. Please call the Bill Memorial Library at 860-445-0392.
