In-Person Guided Tour: Bioinvasions of the Mystic River at Mystic Seaport

FreeYou’ve learned all about the impact of invasive species on the Mystic River Estuary, now join us for a Guided Tour of the Mystic River Estuary at the Mystic Seaport with Dr. Carlton. The library will sponsor attendance for up to 30 participants. Please meet us at 4:45 in front of the North Entrance on Greenmanville Ave. Dress warmly if necessary. Although an outdoor activity, face masks are encouraged due to participants’ proximity to one another.
Registration is required to attend this program. Please only register if you are certain you can attend. Notify the Library if you cannot make it so we can offer your spot to another interested patron.
Speaker Bio
Dr. James T. Carlton is a Professor of Marine Sciences Emeritus at Williams College (Williamstown, Massachusetts USA) and Director (1989-2015) Emeritus of the Williams College – Mystic Seaport Ocean and Coastal Studies Program (Mystic, Connecticut). His research is focused on the environmental history of estuaries and coastal marine ecosystems, especially on invasions of non-native species and modern-day extinctions. Jim is the only scientist to receive the Interagency Recognition Award from the United States Federal Government for his national and international work to reduce the impacts of exotic species invasions in the sea. Jim received his undergraduate degree in Paleontology from the University of California-Berkeley, his Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California-Davis, and did his postdoctoral work at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
