I’ll Follow the Sun, Photography exhibition

Please join us for a reception launching the solo exhibit of the dynamic, large-scale botanical works by photographer Shelley Lawrence Kirkwood. Kirkwood is an artist, writer, and educator whose work explores themes of memory, time, and transient states of being through the lens of nature. Her works have been exhibited internationally, and published in numerous magazines. A portfolio from this series was recently awarded best-in-show by UK’s Royal Horticultural Society at an international exhibition hosted by Saatchi gallery.

This collection of colorful macro photography uses foraged plants from the Sonoran Desert and the forests and meadows of western Massachusetts — two distinct landscapes this photographer has called home for much of her life.

She says: “The process of isolating and combining these specimens offers an opportunity to experience the relationship of the eternal and the temporal. In isolation, cycles of growth and decay become more apparent, revealing the singular grace of each form, and evidence of the particular environment from which it emerged. I view each of these compositions as monuments to past and present, and my own transient presence within these landscapes.”
