Harboring Hope: Book Talk with Susan Hood

Award-winning children’s book author Susan Hood will present her newest middle grade book Harboring Hope, published by HarperCollins. It’s the moving true story of how a young woman named Henny helped Danish Jews escape the Nazis on a lighthouse tender named Gerda III (afloat at Mystic Seaport Museum since 1997, on behalf of the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, NY). After hearing the presentation walk along the waterfront and visit Gerda III.
Susan Hood has written many books for young readers, including Alias Anna, Lifeboat 12, Ada’s Violin, The Last Straw, Shaking Things Up, and more. She is the recipient of an E. B. White Read Aloud Picture Book Honor, the Christopher Award, the Golden Kite Award, the Bank Street Flora Stieglitz Straus Award, given annually for “a distinguished work of nonfiction,” and is a 2022 National Jewish Book Award Finalist.
