About the Book
When the Busy Beast arrives one day, “musts” and “have-to’s” push out play. The grown-ups think the Beast has won, but the children know what must be done… This is a story about the importance of a slow childhood and a reminder that we all have the power to say “NO”.
The Busy Beast is a disagreeable monster who comes to town and fills everyone’s schedules to the brim. But his tenure ends when the children push back and demand more time for play. With rhyming verse and compelling illustrations, the book invites families to start a conversation about busyness and, perhaps, to slow down a bit.

Laura Jackson is a writer and educator who is passionate about student-centered learning and alternative education. She lives on the Connecticut shoreline with her husband and two young children and enjoys all things DIY.
