Schooners to Hold SE CT High School Baseball Summit

03/10/2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Mystic Schooners are proud to announce the first ever Southeastern Connecticut High School Baseball Summit on Tuesday March 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., at The Boathouse Restaurant in Mystic.

Schooners Manager Phil Orbe (also a three-time state champion at Montville High School), and former head coaches Ed Harvey (Fitch High School), Jack O’Keefe (Waterford High School), and Gil Varjas (New London High School) will be on hand to answer questions, and participate in a discussion about succeeding in high school baseball and beyond. Their talk will be moderated by Lee Elci, morning talk show host on” 94.9 News Now,” and a former professional baseball player in the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization.

Tickets cost $20 for adults, $10 for high school students, and $5 for any accompanying children under the age of 14, and appetizers and refreshments are included with the price of admission.

It promises to be a great event, and a very informative talk for any current or future high school baseball players and their families. All told, the four speakers boast more than 100 years of coaching experience, eight state championships, and dozens of former players who have gone on to play baseball professionally–including three currently playing in the MLB.

The Mystic Schooners are a 501(c)(3) non-profit and founding member of the New England Collegiate Baseball Leagues; one of America’s most respected amateur leagues. Now in their fifth year in Mystic, the Schooners will begin their 2015 season on Friday, June 5 against the defending-champion Newport Gulls, and will open their home schedule the following night, June 6, at Fitch High School against the Ocean State Waves.
