A Kid-Friendly Stroll in Downtown Mystic

All photos by Marie Cleary, @cognewengland

A beautiful crisp New England day! My daughter Caroline (who can often be seen accompanying me on my local deliveries) and I decided to take a stroll in Downtown Mystic, something we often do! One thing we really appreciate about Mystic and the surrounding area, is not only the obvious New England charm but also the abundance of culture its bustling restaurants and stores provide, something we crave even more these days with the current travel restrictions!

We began our afternoon with a quick walk along the dock in Mystic River Park! What a gorgeous sunset this spot offers.

We then popped into Mystical Toys to spend some allowance money (earned by helping mommy with her orders). Caroline picked out an adorable squirrel stuffed animal and appropriately named her “Mysty”. Mystical Toys is also part of our yearly Christmas tradition, where Caroline mails her letter to Santa!

We crossed the famous Mystic bridge over to Fatface Mystic, where Caroline picked out an adorable knitted hat and matching mittens which helped keep her warm on the rest of our walk.

We strolled past our favorite Italian restaurant, Via Emilia! Just peeking through these windows nearly transports you to Italy. We can’t wait until our next dinner with an authentic Italian experience. Of course we had to head over to our friends at Sift Bake Shop for our French pastry fix. Caroline picked out her favorite rose water and vanilla macarons. Sift croissants and macarons are our favorite local treat!

After indulging a bit outside we headed into Bank Square Books to the children’s section. We peeked at some of the cutest local themed books like “Lucky to live in Connecticut”. It’s days like these that we’re reminded we truly are!

After window shopping at Black Dog Mystic, we made one last stop for mom at Spencer and Lynn where I am always warmly welcomed and given suggestions on a new wine I have yet to try but always seem to love! They carry such a great variety of wines and spirits, great for people looking to expand their pallets.

While this concluded our afternoon, and we couldn’t hit all of our favorite spots, we are always excited to leave something new for next time! Mystic truly is a gem of New England!
