Project Oceanology, on the UConn campus at Avery Point runs tours out to Ledge Lighthouse on most Summer Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in July and August and only on Saturdays in September. The tours depart the UConn dock at 4:00 PM and return at 6:30 PM  and usually include a ride into New London harbor.

The Custom House Maritime Museum, using the Project O boat, runs tours departing from the City Pier in New London at 2:30 every other Saturday in July, August and September. These tickets can be booked online at www.brownpapertickets.com.

The Mystic Whaler, an authentic 110 foot tall ship, visits Ledge Light as part of a few select day cruises throughout the summer. You can visit their website www.mysticwhalercruises.com/schedule/ to book your tour. The select Ledge Light cruises are designated “Lighthouse Daysail” and depart from New London at 10:00 returning at 3:00 with an hour stop to tour inside Ledge Light.

New London Ledge Lighthouse has stood guard at the mouth of Thames River since it was built in 1909. Come explore the rich heritage, romance and unique architecture of one of Connecticut’s jewels. Participants will board the Enviro-lab and disembark at Ledge Light.

A new interpretive center inside guides visitors through the story of this solitary outpost that has guided many vessels over the years, from wooden schooners to state-of-the-art submarines. Feel what it was really like to live the life of a lighthouse keeper.
