SUMMARY:A Martini Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Everyone knows James Bond preferred his martinis shaken\, not stirred\, but do you know why? How did this secret-agents tipple evolve into today’s ubiquitous Espresso Martini? The history of the Martini is as intricate as a spy movie plot\, but few are familiar with how the most famous drink in the world came to be. Join Mystic’s own Anthony Caporale\, author and producer of “The Imbible” series of hit New York musicals about the history of cocktails and spirits. We will learn how to make a Martini that would have made 007 give up his license to kill. Then we will jump into classic variations like the Manhattan\, and of course we’ll perfect that Espresso Martini. A selection of Unique spirits will be provided by Spencer and Lynn Wine and Spirit Merchants of downtown Mystic.

SUMMARY:Bestselling Author Donna Russo Book Signing at Bank Square Books
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 2\, from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM\, Bestselling Rhode Island author Donna Russo will be signing copies of her latest release\, the critically acclaimed\, VINCENT’S WOMEN at Bank Square Books\, 54 West Main Street\, Mystic\, CT 06355 860-415-4406. \n‘Vincent’s Women’ is the untold story of Vincent’s loves: how they shaped his life\, his art\, and his death. It writes against the ‘myths\, ‘ exploring the possibility that none of them are true. It is the only novel to bring into question his sexuality\, how he lost his ear\, who he lost it for\, and how he might have died\, all through the eyes of a woman. We learn of Her; we learn all of it through Her. \nThe story is guided by Johanna van Gogh Bonger\, Vincent’s sister-in-law\, as she decides to reveal the truth about Vincent to her son. We are then taken on a journey through Vincent’s life\, each section bringing a pivotal moment of Vincent’s life alive while showing us the part she played in bringing it about. Between each woman\, our guide\, Johanna\, gives us the transitional periods\, right up to his death\, which is now in question. \nHundreds of the nearly thousand letters between Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo\, now considered one of the greatest documents of the human experience\, were used to help construct this novel\, its narrative\, and dialogue\, especially the dialogue of Vincent himself. \nVincent van Gogh is one of the most well-known artists of all time. The world knows of his madness\, traumas\, and suicide. But what if everything we think we know about Vincent van Gogh is all lies? What if this knowledge is based on rumors and nothing more? What if his true story is vastly different when based on factual material and forensic information? What if the truth of Vincent’s life-his madness and his genius-is defined by his never-ending search for love? \n“Arresting…masterful… a provocative and compelling look at one of history’s most enigmatic artists.”\n-Publishers Weekly \n“A symphonic novel that sheds new light on an elusive genius.”\n-Kirkus Reviews \n“Vincent’s Women represents historical fiction at its best…astute\, thought-provoking\, and revealing.”\n-Midwest Book Review \n“One of the most wonderful books about an artist I have ever read.”\n-Stephanie Cowell\, Author of Claude and Camille: A Novel of Monet\, and Marrying Mozart. Recipient American Book Award. \n“A powerful and satisfying read.”\n-Lynn Cullen\, Bestselling Author of The Woman with the Cure and Mrs. Poe \n“The writing and dialogue are all so well done\, and the use of a fictional narrative makes it all feel authentic. Very highly recommended.”\n-Readers’ Favorite 5-star Review \n“This novel is not just a book; it is a masterful painting in itself\, portraying the vibrant\, volatile\, and often tragic life of one of history’s most renowned artists.”\n-5-Star Amazon Review \n“This is historical fiction at its best…a tour de force!”\n-5-Star Goodreads Review \n“This is easily the best book I’ve read this year!”\n-5-star NetGalley Review \nA Foreword Reviews Editorial Selection \nFINALIST Next Generation Indie Book Awards

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Armed Forces Day with a deep-dive into the rich history of naval rum! Born amid ships\, rum has long been served aboard naval vessels and was a critical provision on nearly all ocean voyages. Join Anthony Caporale\, Director of Spirits Education at New York’s award-winning Institute of Culinary Education\, to explore the origins of this seafaring spirit\, examine its complex relationship with sailors\, pirates\, and privateers\, and discover why the modern world as we know it would likely look much different without rum. Along the way\, we’ll taste several styles of rum and learn to appreciate what makes them both similar and often vastly distinct. A selection of unique rums will be provided by Spencer & Lynn Wine and Spirit Merchants of downtown Mystic. If you’re proudly serving or gratefully supporting\, you won’t want to miss this unique take on cane spirits!
