SUMMARY:Kojicon 2024: Presence\, Place\, Possibility
DESCRIPTION:The Yellow Farmhouse Education Center\, a nonprofit organization based on Stone Acres Farm in Stonington\, CT is excited to announce their 4th annual\, globally attended virtual conference\, Kojicon 2024: Presence\, Place\, Possibility\, which takes place February 19 – March 3\, 2024. Koji experts and food makers from across the globe will gather to virtually share their passion for mold-based fermentation during this two-week conference. \nFermentation begins with the presence of the vibrant microbial communities found in our surroundings\, on our bodies\, and within the very ingredients we use. Yet it‘s the marriage of this microbial dance with our personal connection to place that sparks the flames of creativity and builds community. This year\, our interactive programming will explore the limitless possibilities that arise when we intentionally weave together the threads of presence and place. \nThis virtual conference typically draws over 1000 participants worldwide\, with representation from over 60 countries and nearly every state in the US. Kojicon is planned in partnership with and curated by Rich Shih\, fermentation expert and co-author of “Koji Alchemy.” \nKojicon 2024 presenters include authors and fermenters David Zilber\, Arielle Johnson\, and Marika Groen\, spirit and beverage producers Leslie Merinoff\, Esther Merino\, and Alice Jun\, artisan makers Ozzy Hsieh\, Rogimar Alvarado Garcia\, Tiffany Lay\, and Zo Lin\, scientists and researchers Richard Preiss and Curro Polo\, and chefs Jeremy Umansky\, Mara Jane King\, Julián Otero\, Pao Liu\, and more. \nThe sliding scale ticket pricing reflects the Yellow Farmhouse Education Center’s commitment towards community building and inclusion. The Community Ticket ($30) is a reduced price ticket for those with a financial need and is made possible due to the generosity of Sponsors and those who purchase the Supporter Ticket ($140). The Sustainer Ticket ($70) is the regular priced ticket. \nMore Info & Registration \nThe Yellow Farmhouse Education Center is a non-profit\, 501c3 located in Stonington\, CT. Our mission is to connect people to each other and to where their food comes from through food and farm-based education.

SUMMARY:Paint Night: Practice & Skillshare
DESCRIPTION:Come to the Library to share and learn what you know (or don’t know) about painting\, or simply enjoy the meditative experience of mixing color and shape while browsing art books from the Library’s collection. Prompts and structure based on the Celebrating Cultural Heritage through Art lecture series and accompanying Mystic Museum of Art workshops will guide us. Participants are welcome to bring their own supplies\, but the Library will offer a set of acrylic paints\, brushes\, and one 8×10 canvas to the first 15 registrants. \nConsider this time to create and respond to our open call for submissions to our Tiny Art Gallery Show! We are asking our patrons to contribute artworks that celebrate cultural heritage to display in the Ames Room for the month of May. Turn in your completed artwork to the circulation desk with a brief cover sheet indicating: your name\, contact information\, a title for the artwork\, and a description or artist statement for the painting. All ages and experience levels are welcome. \nRegistration is required to attend this program.

If you’re looking for a special gift for someone who has everything\, join us this winter for small group guided tours of the Museum’s Watercraft Collection. Housed in nearly an acre of the Rossi Mill building\, the Watercraft collection is one of the world’s largest and most diverse collections of its kind. With over 460 boats\, mostly wood and mostly American\, dating back to 1824\, the collection includes vessels owned by a former president\, prototypes of famous designs\, and every imaginable outboard engine. \nGet Tickets
