SUMMARY:Gunilla Norris (Calling the Creatures: Poems) Author Talk and Q&A at Savoy
DESCRIPTION:Savoy Bookshop & Café presents an author talk and Q&A with Gunilla Norris for the new poetry collection\, Calling the Creatures! \nThis event is free\, but registration is requested. \nAbout the Book\nGunilla Norris has written a book that spans decades of her life. She invites us to wonder what calls us into recollection. It is always a mystery when an inner voice asks for attention. In a long life\, that call can be insistent and want a welcome for a vast array of experiences. Gunilla likens this to the calling of farm animals back to the barn after foraging all day which she witnessed in northern Sweden as a child. \nMeaningful experiences\, be they losses\, loves\, queries or epiphanies\, want sanctuary. If the doors of the heart are open\, the recollections can enter again\, come back home so to speak and be recognized as the poems of a life. \nAbout Gunilla Norris\nGunilla Norris’ parents were world travelers in the Swedish diplomatic corps and so she grew up essentially in three places: Argentina\, Sweden and the United States. As a child she was given a rich exposure to different languages and cultures. \nShe received her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and her M.S. from Bridgeport University in the field of human development. She is a mother and a grandmother. She has been a psychotherapist in private practice for more than thirty years and has felt privileged to accompany many people on their journeys to growth and healing. Her special love has been teaching meditation and leading contemplative workshops of many kinds. \nAs a writer Gunilla has published eleven children’s books\, one book of poetry and six books on spirituality including: Being Home\, Becoming Bread\, Inviting Silence\, A Mystic Garden\, Simple Ways and Sheltered in the Heart.

SUMMARY:Armando Lucas Correa (In Search of Emma) Virtual Author Talk and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Bank Square Books and Savoy Bookshop & Café present an author talk and Q&A with Armando Lucas Correa for her new book In Search of Emma. \nThis event is free\, but registration is required. \nAbout the Book\nRevised and updated with a new introduction by the author—and available in English for the first time—the moving story of a man who always wanted to be a father and the long emotional road to making his dream come true. \nBorn in Cuba and raised in the USA\, Armando Lucas Correa epitomized the American dream. He had everything he wanted: an incredible job as the editor of People magazine\, meeting and interviewing glamorous celebrities; a steady partner; and a comfortable life filled with travel. But with the new millennium\, he realized something vital was missing. A child. \nIn the years before gay marriage was widespread and legal across the nation\, the road to parenthood was difficult for gay couples. Though his family would not be traditional\, Correa was undaunted. Every setback\, each emotional challenge was fuel that drove him to fulfill his dream. Exhaustively researching the possibilities\, Correa eventually chose surrogacy—a long\, arduous\, and expensive method involving seemingly endless tests\, paperwork\, and difficult decisions. But with the help of science\, a lot of patience\, an egg donor\, a gestational mother\, and the unconditional support of her partner and family\, Correa’s dream finally came true with the birth of his beloved daughter\, Emma. \nIn Search of Emma is an inspiring and beautiful story of love\, family\, and fatherhood that reminds us of that\, despite the odds\, we must never stop fighting to achieve our dreams. Completely revised and updated to reflect his growing family. \nAbout the Author\nArmando Lucas Correa nació en Guantánamo\, Cuba.

DESCRIPTION:Ages 7 – 12 \nDo you have a budding artist at home? Have your child ages 7 – 12 join us for a two part class to learn to make natural dyes and paints. Thousands of years ago there were no craft stores or websites and people looked to the earth for their materials to produce art. Natural colors can be harvested from vegetables\, teas\, coffee\, fruits and many other unexpected sources\, you just need to know where to look. \nDuring the first class\, we will harvest and make the dyes. In the second class\, learn to mix other colors and shades. This class meets at DPNC. \nMembers: $42.50\, Nonmembers: $50
