Morgan. \nBrave adults and older kids can join a haunting guided tour through the Museum’s shadowy corners. The town of Greenmanville has been overtaken—infested by creatures of the deep. You must escape the inhuman souls that crawl from the water\, intent on turning you into one of their own. DESCRIPTION:We welcome local writers for free-write sessions at 4 p.m.\, Mondays\, in the Ames Room. The sessions are open to anyone who feels like writing. \nLoosely based on the notion of stream-of-consciousness writing described by Natalie Goldberg in “Writing Down the Bones\,” the sessions are broken into three parts of 5 minutes\, 10 minutes\, and 5 minutes. A writer selects a topic from subjects previously placed in a box. For the first 5 minutes\, write whatever comes to mind. Don’t stop to correct\, just record whatever pops into your head\, even if it’s something like\, “I have no idea what to write…” Each person shares what they’ve written\, free of commentary or criticism. \nThen\, for 10 minutes\, writers write what comes to mind\, perhaps an idea or a subject someone had just read aloud or something you wrote in the first 5 minutes will lead to a focus. The group shares again. Writers write for another 5 minutes and then share. \nYou’ll be surprised at the places you’ll go with the topics in these sessions. They give you an opportunity to express yourself\, they’re therapeutic\, and they often lead to a lot to talk about after putting your pens down.

DESCRIPTION:Join DPNC every Tuesday for our Environmental Afternoons! Our science-based curriculum introduces students to the wonders of the natural world. New topics are covered each week through hands-on activities\, meeting live animals\, games and time for nature play and socialization. Sign up for one or all of the classes. Classes have a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 14. There are two teachers per age group. Please bring a snack and water bottle to each class. Be prepared to go outside in all weather conditions! Sign-ups are by class. Sign up for one\, some or all! \nSign up is by the following age groups:\nExplorers (ages 4 to 6)\nScientists (ages 7 to 9)\nAdventurers (ages 10-13)\nAnimal Curators (ages 13-15)* \n*Please note that our Animal Curator Program does not follow the same curriculum as above. Students are immersed in hands-on activities working with our resident and rehabilitating wildlife. Activities include cleaning and setting up tanks\, providing enrichment activities for wildlife and learning more about the care of wild and resident animals. Families and kids will love our fanciful performers\, towering sea creatures\, and ghostly projections. Make your own sea creature in our craft zone\, then climb aboard the children’s mini-ship playscape for an imaginative adventure. Along the waterfront\, explore the twilight ambiance of our historic seaport village\, stop by Schaefer’s Spouter Tavern for Halloween-themed food and drinks\, and gaze at massive Kraken tentacles climbing the rigging of the historic Charles W. Morgan. \nBrave adults and older kids can join a haunting guided tour through the Museum’s shadowy corners. The town of Greenmanville has been overtaken—infested by creatures of the deep. You must escape the inhuman souls that crawl from the water\, intent on turning you into one of their own. With a local as your guide\, you’ll flee town and be swept into a tale guaranteed to make your blood run cold…with salt water. DESCRIPTION:We welcome local writers for free-write sessions at 4 p.m.\, Mondays\, in the Ames Room. The sessions are open to anyone who feels like writing. \nLoosely based on the notion of stream-of-consciousness writing described by Natalie Goldberg in “Writing Down the Bones\,” the sessions are broken into three parts of 5 minutes\, 10 minutes\, and 5 minutes. A writer selects a topic from subjects previously placed in a box. For the first 5 minutes\, write whatever comes to mind. Don’t stop to correct\, just record whatever pops into your head\, even if it’s something like\, “I have no idea what to write…” Each person shares what they’ve written\, free of commentary or criticism. \nThen\, for 10 minutes\, writers write what comes to mind\, perhaps an idea or a subject someone had just read aloud or something you wrote in the first 5 minutes will lead to a focus. The group shares again. Writers write for another 5 minutes and then share. \nYou’ll be surprised at the places you’ll go with the topics in these sessions. They give you an opportunity to express yourself\, they’re therapeutic\, and they often lead to a lot to talk about after putting your pens down.

DESCRIPTION:Join DPNC every Tuesday for our Environmental Afternoons! Our science-based curriculum introduces students to the wonders of the natural world. New topics are covered each week through hands-on activities\, meeting live animals\, games and time for nature play and socialization. Sign up for one or all of the classes. Classes have a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 14. There are two teachers per age group. Please bring a snack and water bottle to each class. Be prepared to go outside in all weather conditions! Sign-ups are by class. Sign up for one\, some or all! \nSign up is by the following age groups:\nExplorers (ages 4 to 6)\nScientists (ages 7 to 9)\nAdventurers (ages 10-13)\nAnimal Curators (ages 13-15)* \n*Please note that our Animal Curator Program does not follow the same curriculum as above. Students are immersed in hands-on activities working with our resident and rehabilitating wildlife. Activities include cleaning and setting up tanks\, providing enrichment activities for wildlife and learning more about the care of wild and resident animals. Students alternate animal care tasks with hikes\, nature journaling and other group activities at DPNC. This program is limited to 6 students and has one instructor.
