SUMMARY:The Sixth Annual Stonington Borough Art Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for The Sixth Annual Stonington Borough Art Walk on Saturday\, September 14th! The Art Walk is an annual event held in mid-September hosted by the Stonington Borough Merchants Association. The one-day fair features the best of Southeastern Connecticut’s and Southern Rhode Island’s art scene\, acoustic musical performances\, the Borough’s shops\, cultural assets\, restaurants\, and food vendors. The event is free to the public and attracts visitors from across New England and beyond. \nThe event has quickly become known as a mecca for great local art and art-loving patrons. The goal is quality over quantity — a well-curated assortment of less than 100 painters\, illustrators\, watercolorists\, sculptors\, potters\, makers\, and photographers — lining Water Street with tents and tables\, stretching all the way down to Cannon Square. \nThere are many art-related activities as well: There’s a roving performance artist\, tours and exhibits at The Captain Palmer House\, The Lighthouse Museum\, The James Merrill House\, La Grua Center\, The Velvet Mill\, and The Stonington Free Library (which also provides free activities for the kids)\, and a delightful scavenger hunt\, The Glaze Vase Project\, thanks to local potter and Art Walk participant\, Lyndsay Meiklem Dean of Glaze Handmade. Lyndsay hides tiny vases throughout the Borough for seekers to find. In addition\, our local spirits shop\, Cove Ledge Beer\, Wine and Spirits offers tastings and hosts artists in their spectacular garden. \nAll of this in the tiny footprint of Connecticut’s oldest village — the beautiful seaside town of Stonington Borough. \nThe inclement weather date is Sunday\, September 15th. \nMore Info

Don’t stop to correct\, just record whatever pops into your head\, even if it’s something like\, “I have no idea what to write…” Each person shares what they’ve written\, free of commentary or criticism. \nThen\, for 10 minutes\, writers write what comes to mind\, perhaps an idea or a subject someone had just read aloud or something you wrote in the first 5 minutes will lead to a focus. The group shares again. Writers write for another 5 minutes and then share. \nYou’ll be surprised at the places you’ll go with the topics in these sessions. They give you an opportunity to express yourself\, they’re therapeutic\, and they often lead to a lot to talk about after putting your pens down.

SUMMARY:Writers Group
DESCRIPTION:We welcome local writers for free-write sessions at 4 p.m.\, Mondays\, in the Ames Room. The sessions are open to anyone who feels like writing. \nLoosely based on the notion of stream-of-consciousness writing described by Natalie Goldberg in “Writing Down the Bones\,” the sessions are broken into three parts of 5 minutes\, 10 minutes\, and 5 minutes. A writer selects a topic from subjects previously placed in a box. For the first 5 minutes\, write whatever comes to mind.
