SUMMARY:Arts on the Quad - Ukrainian American Dancers
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the final performance of our summer series Arts on the Quad with the dance troupe Ukrainian Dancers USA. Founded in Brooklyn\, NY by Ukrainian-American choreographer Andrij Cybyk in 2007\, Ukrainian Dancers USA have entertained audiences across the Northeast with traditional and contemporary dancing and singing. Experience the rich culture of Ukraine\, while supporting those in need. The performance is free with a voluntary admission ticket of $10 per person\, and half of the proceeds will go towards UNICEF for Ukrainian Children. \nAttendees are invited to bring their own lawn chair and picnic\, or grab some eats from our snack bar. A cash bar will be available (no BYOB\, please). In the event of rain\, performances will take place in a covered location on the Museum grounds. Rain location seating is limited and on a first-come\, first-served basis. Doors open at 5:00 p.m.\, and the performance begins at 6:30 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:Join us this summer for the Mystic & Noank Library’s annual Roode Memorial Concert Series. It’s a series of free outdoor concerts on the grounds of the Mystic & Noank Library. These concerts celebrate the life of Mystic & Noank Library patrons Agnes and Carl Roode. The Roodes were longtime Mystic residents who loved music and the Library. Their family continues the tradition of honoring their legacy with a wonderful lineup of talented musicians in 2022. \nThis summer’s series features three musicians from different genres and musical stylings. Please bring your own lawn chair\, blankets\, or other seating to your comfort level. In the event of rain\, indoor attendance will be limited\, and the Library will welcome the first 50 guests to arrive. Masks are encouraged in the event of an indoor concert. No registration is necessary for these concerts. \nConnor Holdridge Duo\nThursday\, June 16 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM\nConnor Holdridge is a guitarist and composer in the Baltimore / Washington area. He has been a member of several performing acts over the years\, including Michael Joseph Harris and his band Ultrafaux. Connor has been known to play a variety of guitar styles but mostly performs the music of Django Reinhardt. In this special concert\, Connor will be joined by violinist\, Nataly Merezhuk. Nataly is an exceptionally conversational improviser\, well-steeped in the jazz violin styles of Stephane Grappelli and Sven Asmussen. Her melodic improvisations are a perfect match for Connor’s explosive-yet-sensitive guitar accompaniment. \nNora Fox\nThursday\, July 21 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM\nNora Fox is an actor\, composer\, writer\, multi-instrumentalist\, and choreographer whose work has brought her to West Africa\, Australia\, Europe\, and throughout North and South America. She has performed on Broadway\, at Goodspeed Opera House\, Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center\, RI Shakespeare in the Park\, NY Musical Theatre Festival\, NY Women Center Stage Festival\, Irondale Brooklyn\, Salt Marsh Opera\, American Dance Festival\, Theatre By the Sea\, Ocean State Theatre\, and Ivoryton Playhouse. Fox’s writing has been produced by NYU’s Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue directed by Anna Deavere Smith. She has written/performed in BARS Theatre-in-verse workshop at the Public Theater with Daveed Diggs\, and this summer composed for and acted in Shakespeare in the Woods’ film of As You Like It in VT. Fox has performed/collaborated with Jon Batiste\, Ann Dowd\, Laura Benanti\, Grace Vanderwaal (Radio City Music Hall)\, and led masterclasses at Belarus’s International Festival of Dance\, Brown University\, and for Grammy-winning Mark O’Connor’s string camp. She is a Brontosaurus recording artist currently working on her album\, holds a BA in Literary Arts from Brown and is an MFA candidate at CalArts. \nJordan Auber\nThursday\, August 18 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM\nJordan Auber is a drummer & percussionist based in Brooklyn\, NY. With his project Color of Rhythm\, Auber presents original music performed on handpan\, a beautifully resonate steel instrument new to this century. His songwriting cultivates influences of progressive jazz and world music\, bringing thought provoking and relaxing compositions to his audience while redefining listeners’ expectations of the handpan. Over the course of 8 years in New York\, Jordan has honed his musicianship with the handpan performing at iconic venues such as Brooklyn Bowl\, Knitting Factory\, Brooklyn Made\, and Rockwood Music Hall\, to name a few. Most recently Color of Rhythm has signed with a European music label\, Future Rust\, and released a single titled “Maneki Neko” featuring his full quintet.

Concerts will begin 6 p.m. each Friday night from July 1 to August 26. \nConcessions open at 5:30 p.m. offering lobster rolls\, burgers\, hot dogs\, grilled chicken sandwiches\, black bean burgers\, candy\, and chips. DESCRIPTION:The Noank-Mystic Community Band will host the twenty-fifth annual Summer Sounds concert series on Tuesday evenings at 7pm from June 7 to August 9. \nThis year the concerts will return to Mystic River Park\, Cottrell Street\, Mystic. \nThis series features a different area community musical organization each week for ten weeks. We are fortunate to have Charter Oak Federal Credit Union as a major sponsor. Concerts are also sponsored by local area business and civic organizations. We also are receiving grant support from CT Humanities. \nAdmission is free to the public; please bring blankets or lawn chairs. DESCRIPTION:● WHERE: Groton Senior Center’s Community meeting/banquet hall @ 102 Newtown Road\, Groton\, CT 06340.\n● Summer is upon us and many local contra dances have closed for the summer due to a lack of air conditioning but\, not the Mystic Contra Dance! We have AC!!!!\n● CALLER: Paul Wilde. Caller from RI who has been calling to all levels of experience.\n● MUSIC: Carol Bittenson and Alex Cumming. Carol Bittenson is a Boston-area musician and violin teacher with over 30 years experience playing for dances all around New England and from New York to California. She is a member of Reelation\, Concepdance\, and Free Association. Alex Cumming is a traditional Singer\, Accordionist\, Pianist and dance caller hailing from Somerset\, England\, now living in Greater Boston\, MA\, USA. He performs songs and tunes from around the United Kingdom and America with a great depth of knowledge of the tradition. Alex has made his mark on the folk scene with his rhythmic dance-able accordion style\, strong voice and his fun and engaging stage presence.\n● COVID:\nVaccination are highly encouraged\nAll participants must give names and contact information\, so we can notify attendees if someone who was at the dance later informs us that they’ve tested positive.\nMasks are highly encouraged and recommended. Please do.\n● ADMISSION: $10 adults\, $7 students. & Donations gratefully accepted! Delicious pies at the break for $3/slice help support the band.\n● CLOTHING & FOOTWEAR: Clothing is casual\, layers are best for this invigorating exercise. Please wear non-street shoes that move easily on the floor (rubber soled sneaker are discouraged).\n● PARKING: Plenty of parking in the large parking area next to the building!
