SUMMARY:What Lurks Beneath: GHOST SHIP
DESCRIPTION:This October\, an epic immersive theatrical Halloween adventure is overtaking Mystic Seaport Museum—and it’s unlike anything we’ve done before. \nThe Grampus set sail for a three-year whaling expedition in October of 1826. After a brutal storm in the North Atlantic\, rations ran out and there was a violent mutiny on board. The Grampus went adrift. The ravenous crew was never heard from again\, and there were thought to be no survivors. Until tonight. \nThe Grampus has shown up at the seaport docks after being lost at sea for two centuries—and the hungry whalers on board are looking for mischief\, mayhem\, and revenge. Join the rowdy\, mutinous ghost whalers of the Grampus as they tell their story and battle the supernatural forces that dragged them back\, in a wild\, riveting\, seaside homecoming party\, 200 years in the making. \nProduced with New York-based Clockjack Productions\, GHOST SHIP unfolds across the Museum’s historic grounds. Roam freely. Follow who you dare. Every path through the darkness is your own. Food\, drink\, and the waterfront chill are part of the experience. \nMore Details

SUMMARY:Writers Group
DESCRIPTION:We welcome local writers for free-write sessions at 4 p.m.\, Mondays\, in the Ames Room. The sessions are open to anyone who feels like writing. \nLoosely based on the notion of stream-of-consciousness writing described by Natalie Goldberg in “Writing Down the Bones\,” the sessions are broken into three parts of 5 minutes\, 10 minutes\, and 5 minutes. A writer selects a topic from subjects previously placed in a box. For the first 5 minutes\, write whatever comes to mind. Don’t stop to correct\, just record whatever pops into your head\, even if it’s something like\, “I have no idea what to write…” Each person shares what they’ve written\, free of commentary or criticism. \nThen\, for 10 minutes\, writers write what comes to mind\, perhaps an idea or a subject someone had just read aloud or something you wrote in the first 5 minutes will lead to a focus. The group shares again. Writers write for another 5 minutes and then share. \nYou’ll be surprised at the places you’ll go with the topics in these sessions. They give you an opportunity to express yourself\, they’re therapeutic\, and they often lead to a lot to talk about after putting your pens down.

SUMMARY:Nikoletta Nousiopoulos (Penelope’s Dream Almanac) Author Talk and Signing
DESCRIPTION:Bank Square Books presents an author talk and signing with Nikoletta Nousiopoulos for the book\, Penelope’s Dream Almanac. \nRegister \nAbout the Book \nPenelope’s Dream Almanac by Nikoletta Nousiopoulos is a visceral collection of poetry and lyrical prose that merges Homeric and contemporary worlds. Her words weave allusions to mythology\, dreamscapes\, and astrology\, heightening the reader’s sensory delight. In order to question archetypal roles within the female experience\, Nousiopoulos draws from real dreams recorded over a decade to assemble her almanac\, the alchemical tool of poetry. For the poet\, as for Penelope\, creativity survives despite the subtleties of misogyny. \nAbout the Author \nNikoletta Nousiopoulos is a poet\, writer\, and educator residing in Southeastern Connecticut with her husband\, fiction writer Daniel Giovinazzo\, and their three young children. In 2009\, Nousiopoulos received her MFA in Creative Writing: Poetry from New England College. She works as an academic advisor and instructor in the Thames college transition program at Mitchell College\, and she also teaches college composition at York Correctional Institution\, Connecticut’s only prison for women. Deeply involved in the campus creative community\, she serves on the literary board for the Mitchell Literary Review and acts as the faculty advisor to The Thames Review\, both of which are college journals dedicated to publishing student work. \nNousiopoulos was awarded a 2026 Poet & Author Fellowship from the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing. She is the author of the debut collection all the dead goats (Little Red Tree Publishing)\, and her poetry has appeared in numerous print and digital journals\, including The Fairy Tale Review\, Tammy\, ethel\, Whiskey Island\, American Religion\, antiphony\, tiny spoon\, and Peach Mag.
