SUMMARY:Connelly Akstens (Without Shame) Author Talk and Q&A at Bank Square Books
DESCRIPTION:Bank Square Books presents an author talk and Q&A with Connelly Akstens for the new book\, Without Shame. \nAbout the Book\nThis book is the story I have wanted to tell for a very long time. For most of my life I lived in the shadow of shame. I was afraid there would be terrible consequences if anyone discovered my gender confusion. Who would want to be my friend? How would I have a career? Who would love me? The past two decades have been a process of coming out of hiding\, letting myself be known and leaving shame behind. That process has led me to write this book. I’ve been blessed with many odd experiences\, some stunning misadventures and the acquaintance of many quirky people. And whatever I have to say about it\, or whatever you may think of it\, I’m grateful I can finally tell my story without shame. \nAbout Connelly Akstens\nConnelly Akstens (fka Tom Akstens) is an educator\, musician\, gardener and lover of the outdoors. Connelly has been active in transgender outreach and education.

SUMMARY:Elaine Alexander (Anglerfish: The Seadevil of the Deep) Author Signing at Bank Square Books
DESCRIPTION:Bank Square Books presents an author signing with Elaine Alexander for the new book\, Anglerfish: The Seadevil of the Deep.\nAbout the Book\nDeep in the darkest part of the ocean\, visit a primordial\, fierce-toothed fish that draws in prey with its own bioluminescent lure. \nDive thirteen thousand feet below the ocean’s surface\, where no ray of sunlight can penetrate. Resources are scarce\, and fellow inhabitants scarcer. This is life in the midnight zone—life for the anglerfish\, known as the Seadevil of the Deep. Still largely a mystery to scientists\, the deep-sea anglerfish is a true source of fascination and awe. To some\, the fish resembles a prehistoric creature forgotten by time; to others\, she is the embodiment of power\, grace\, and grit\, using her remarkable physical attributes and a talent for deception to survive one of the harshest environments on the planet. \nIn Anglerfish\, author Elaine M. Alexander and illustrator Fiona Fogg shine a small light on this mesmerizing\, unforgettable creature. A captivating text paired with stunning artwork complement not only STEM but also language arts and history curricula. More facts about the anglerfish—from how it hunts to the surprising way a female mates with far tinier males—await curious readers in the back matter. \nAbout the Author\nElaine M. Alexander is an author of books for children. Anglerfish: The Seadevil of the Deep\, her first nonfiction picture book\, received both an SCBWI Barbara Karlin Grant and a Katherine Paterson Prize. A fan of dark mysteries and the natural world\, she is fascinated by all things extraordinary and unique. Currently a youth services librarian at the Deep River Public Library\, Elaine M. Alexander lives with her family in Colchester\, Connecticut.

SUMMARY:Nan Rossiter (A Good Measure) Author Talk and Q&A at Bank Square Books
DESCRIPTION:Bank Square Books presents an author talk and Q&A with Nan Rossiter for the new book\, A Good Measure.\nThis event is in partnership with OutCT. 15% of event book sales will be donated to OutCT to help fund New London Pride!\nOutCT is a 501c3 non-profit organization established in 2013 by a diverse group of gay\, lesbian\, bisexual\, transgender\, queers and their allies in Southeastern Connecticut to plan a New London Pride Festival. \nAbout the Book\nReturn to Tybee Island off the coast of Georgia in USA Today bestselling author Nan Rossiter’s third Savannah Skies novel\, a heartwarming story about love\, acceptance\, finding your place in the world\, and learning to carry on in the face of overwhelming loss. \nIt has been eight months since Libby Tennyson’s husband\, Jack\, passed away\, and now every afternoon when the fiery sun sinks below the horizon\, she finds herself wandering through the empty old farmhouse in which they raised their six sons. Melancholy hour\, she calls it—the time of day that was once a flurry of dinner\, homework\, and chores\, but with her sons grown and on their own\, she grieves for all she has lost—and worries about what the future holds for her youngest son\, twenty-eight-year-old Chase. \nAll the Tennyson boys are handsome—but there’s something about Chase that has always made women swoon. Growing up in the shadow of his older brothers\, Chase was different—gentler\, kinder\, a boy with a big heart who looked after those most vulnerable. Though his family loves him deeply\, Chase never felt he could truly be himself until he met Liam Evans\, his partner in business and love. After six years\, Chase and Liam are ready to make a lifetime commitment…yet both feel apprehensive including their very traditional families in their wedding planning. \nBut life is full of surprises\, and Libby finds unexpected hope in her new stage of life when she connects with The Guild\, a group of widows who get together every Thursday evening for wine\, laughter\, and companionship. Here\, Libby not only discovers a safe space\, but a place of honesty\, and…growth. And while Liam and Libby may not see eye to eye every time\, they can both always agree that love truly does win. \nAfter all\, a good measure\, pressed down\, shaken together and running over\, is always poured back…because for all the measure you use\, it will be measured to you! \nAbout Nan Rossiter\nNew York Times and USA Today bestselling author Nan Rossiter loves to weave together stories about the complicated relationships to which all readers can relate — motherhood\, sisterhood\, friendship\, marriage and romance. She draws from her own life experiences to create authentic situations that mirror the trials and triumphs we all face. Compassionate\, real\, and funny\, her books take readers on emotional journeys that often include heartbreak and joy\, but also include threads of faith\, a furry friend or two\, and an uplifting ending. Nan’s books have been highly acclaimed by reviewers from Publisher’s Weekly to Booklist. Her novel\, SUMMER DANCE\, was the 2018 winner of the Nancy Pearl Award. \nNan is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and began her writing career in the world of children’s books. Along with her many contemporary fiction novels\, she is the author/illustrator of RUGBY & ROSIE\, winner of Nebraska’s Golden Sower Award\, THE WAY HOME\, SUGAR ON SNOW\, and THE FO’C’SLE: Henry Beston’s Outermost House. \nNan lives on a quiet country road in Connecticut with her husband and a solemn black Lab named Finn\, who diligently watches her every move and can be roused from a slumber in a distant room by the sound of a banana being peeled or a cookie crumb hitting the floor. Nan and her husband are the parents of two handsome sons who have struck out on life journeys of their own. \nFor more information\, visit: \nhttp://www.nanrossiter.com/ \nhttps://www.facebook.com/NanRossiter/ \nhttps://www.instagram.com/nanrossiter/ \nPosts by NanRossiter \nhttps://www.bookbub.com/profile/nan-rossiter

SUMMARY:Rachel Barenbaum (Atomic Anna) Author Talk and Q&A at Savoy Bookshop & Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Savoy Bookshop & Café presents an author talk and Q&A with Rachel Barenbaum for the new book\, Atomic Anna. \nAbout the Book\nFrom the author of A Bend in the Stars\, an epic adventure as three generations of women work together and travel through time to prevent the Chernobyl disaster and right the wrongs of their past. \nThree brilliant women.\nTwo life-changing mistakes.\nOne chance to reset the future. \nIn 1986\, renowned nuclear scientist\, Anna Berkova\, is sleeping in her bed in the Soviet Union when Chernobyl’s reactor melts down. It’s the exact moment she tears through time—and it’s an accident. When she opens her eyes\, she’s landed in 1992 only to discover Molly\, her estranged daughter\, shot in the chest. Molly\, with her dying breath\, begs Anna to go back in time and stop the disaster\, to save Molly’s daughter Raisa\, and put their family’s future on a better path. \nIn ‘60s Philadelphia\, Molly is coming of age as an adopted refusenik. Her family is full of secrets and a past they won’t share. She finds solace in comic books\, drawing her own series\, Atomic Anna\, and she’s determined to make it as an artist. When she meets the volatile\, charismatic Viktor\, their romance sets her life on a very different course. \nIn the ‘80s\, Raisa\, is a lonely teen and math prodigy\, until a quiet\, handsome boy moves in across the street and an odd old woman shows up claiming to be her biological grandmother. As Raisa finds new issues of Atomic Anna in unexpected places\, she notices each comic challenges her to solve equations leading to one impossible conclusion: time travel. And she finally understands what she has to do. \nAs these remarkable women work together to prevent the greatest nuclear disaster of the 20th century\, they grapple with the power their discoveries hold. Just because you can change the past\, does it mean you should? \nAbout Rachel Barenbaum\nRACHEL’S second novel is ATOMIC ANNA. Her debut\, A BEND IN THE STARS was named a New York Times Summer Reading Selection and a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection. It was also a Boston Globe Bestseller. \nRachel is a prolific writer and reviewer and her work has appeared in the LA Review of Books\, the Tel Aviv Review of Books and DeadDarlings.
