SUMMARY:Haiku Workshop: Capturing Moments in Nature
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a favorite season? Can you think of a moment that reflects everything you love about that time of year? The snow gently falling. A flower blossoming. The leaves bursting with color. Join poet Jennifer Y. Montgomery on a journey through the history of haiku and other forms of Japanese micro poetry. From frogs to Zen meditation to clandestine feudal love letters. She’ll then guide us through the basics of writing and illustrating haiku. It’s much more than just counting lines and syllables; each haiku captures a season and a single moment in nature. Think about your favorite season and come prepared to write your own haiku. \nBiography\nJennifer Y. Montgomery is a writer\, artist\, storyteller\, attorney\, and pie baker who lives in Connecticut with her daughter. Her poems have appeared in Poetry Quarterly\, Enclave\, Haiku Journal\, 50 Haiku\, Failed Haiku\, Red Weather\, and elsewhere. Her creative nonfiction has appeared in Hinterland. She has told many stories on stage and has been featured on the Mouth storytelling podcast. She believes that truth is stranger than fiction and authenticity is the highest art form.

SUMMARY:Library Giving Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Library Giving Day!\nMystic & Noank Library is raising funds through a Library Giving Day campaign! \nThis one-day online fundraising event will occur on April 4th and will encourage patrons and library lovers to make a gift to their individual library. This campaign reminds us that libraries\, small and large\, serve as a cornerstone for our communities. In addition to well-loved books\, many libraries offer innovative programs that promote lifelong learning. \nAs we know\, public libraries are known for books and research materials\, but they also offer many programs that promote lifelong learning\, connect patrons to technology\, and advance our knowledge. \n#LibraryGivingDay is a one-day fundraising event with the goal of encouraging people who depend on and enjoy public libraries to donate to their individual library system. And in turn\, that support will go toward the incredible programs\, services and materials provided by local libraries all over the country. \nDonate here: https://mysticnoanklibrary.networkforgood.com/projects/164112-2022-2023-annual-fundraising-campaign

SUMMARY:An Evening with Author Rose Young
DESCRIPTION:Join us on April 22nd 2023 from 5-6 PM for an hour of mystery with Author\, Rose Young at the Hygienic Art Gallery. She will read sections from her brand new novel\, “Love of Art & Murder” published by Best Books Publishing. \nABOUT THE BOOK:\n“The art world is an intriguing place where many motives reside to plan an artist’s demise.”\nA tragedy at the Dahlia Art Gallery brings Rose Young’s characters together again! Georgi discovers artist Marilyn Maroney pierced dead by her sculpture. Detective Dan Morrison calls in Roxanne to console Georgi. Doctor Angela Storm and the detective take us through the haphazard investigation while we learn about the art world\, museums\, and death. Meanwhile\, Roxanne and her flamboyant friend Georgi utilize their unique sleuthing methods and find their way into Detective Morrison’s heart… through heartburn! \nAUTHOR BIO:\nRose Young’s mystery is elegant. It is easy to enjoy every word of her story. Her book is like jumping into a library\, an oasis of knowledge appealing to anyone craving an education in the finer things in life. Her murder mystery is an entertaining account of blackmail\, murder\, and adventures around Long Island Sound. Vineyards and ferries\, coffee shops and restaurants decorate this distinguished story\, inspired by novelist Robert Parker and Young’s interest in New London County. \nIn 1981\, Rose Young graduated from New England School of Art and Design in Boston with an associate’s degree. Rose was immersed in studies in drafting\, design\, and landscaping. She later worked at architecture and interior design firms before developing an interest in horticulture. Young was interviewed on SECT-TV in October 2020 in a show called “Books and Beyond” with Jim Bennet. Her readings with the CT Author Trail culminated at the Mohegan Sun casino in 2019. Her book was top ten in two categories on Amazon in 2020: “Mystery and Suspense” and “Mystery/CozyCulinary.” Young has been a member of CAPA\, the Connecticut Association of Authors and Publishers\, since 2016. Her book can be found in bookstores and on Amazon.

SUMMARY:Digital Program: Don’t Judge A Library by Its Building: Library Architecture & Design
DESCRIPTION:There’s more to a library than just shelves and books. Careful thinking and planning has informed the interior and exterior design of libraries as they evolved from medieval stacks to modern community centers. This program will explore the good\, the bad and the amazingly innovative in library architecture\, with a focus on the last century. \nOur presenter is Jane Oneail\, Founder and President of Culturally Curious. Jane was leading tours at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston when she first began to appreciate the special magic that happens when people look at art together and share their genuine reactions and questions. Jane holds a master’s in Art History from Boston University and a master’s in Education from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. \nThis program is hosted by Waterford Public Library and co-sponsored by Groton Public\, Mystic & Noank\, and The Otis Library of Norwich.
