SUMMARY:What Lurks Beneath: GHOST SHIP
DESCRIPTION:This October\, an epic immersive theatrical Halloween adventure is overtaking Mystic Seaport Museum—and it’s unlike anything we’ve done before. \nThe Grampus set sail for a three-year whaling expedition in October of 1826. After a brutal storm in the North Atlantic\, rations ran out and there was a violent mutiny on board. The Grampus went adrift. The ravenous crew was never heard from again\, and there were thought to be no survivors. Until tonight. \nThe Grampus has shown up at the seaport docks after being lost at sea for two centuries—and the hungry whalers on board are looking for mischief\, mayhem\, and revenge. Join the rowdy\, mutinous ghost whalers of the Grampus as they tell their story and battle the supernatural forces that dragged them back\, in a wild\, riveting\, seaside homecoming party\, 200 years in the making. \nProduced with New York-based Clockjack Productions\, GHOST SHIP unfolds across the Museum’s historic grounds. Roam freely. Follow who you dare. Every path through the darkness is your own. Food\, drink\, and the waterfront chill are part of the experience. \nMore Details

SUMMARY:Alexandra Beller (The Anatomy of Art) Author Talk and Signing
DESCRIPTION:Bank Square Books presents an author talk and signing with Alexandra Beller for the book\, The Anatomy of Art. \nRegister \nAbout the Book \nThis book acts as a personal mentor\, helping artists navigate and overcome creative blocks. \nThe Anatomy of Art is a field guide for artists working in dance\, theatre and performance. \nTwelve interrelated drivers of the creative process – including Time\, Space\, Relationship\, Meaning\, and Context & Culture – form a working map for inquiry. \nThrough more than 1\,000 questions\, scores and frameworks\, the book activates rehearsal\, teaching and performance\, keeping choice alive in the body. \nThe book draws on three decades of devised dance and theatre and supports creative work of any scale that calls for bravery\, personal vision and rigorous inquiry. It can be opened anywhere and used for a few minutes in the studio or throughout the life of a project. \nA preface by Marisa Tomei and short offerings from artists across three generations – including Bebe Miller\, Brenda Dixon Gottschild\, Deborah Hay\, Emanuel Gat\, and others – add pressure\, contrast and lived intelligence. \nAbout the Author \nAlexandra Beller is a Brooklyn-based choreographer\, director\, performer and educator\, and the Artistic Director of Alexandra Beller/Dances. A former member of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company (1995–2001)\, she bridges dance and theater with a focus on somatics\, creative process and embodiment. SUMMARY:Writers Group
DESCRIPTION:We welcome local writers for free-write sessions at 4 p.m.\, Mondays\, in the Ames Room. The sessions are open to anyone who feels like writing. \nLoosely based on the notion of stream-of-consciousness writing described by Natalie Goldberg in “Writing Down the Bones\,” the sessions are broken into three parts of 5 minutes\, 10 minutes\, and 5 minutes. A writer selects a topic from subjects previously placed in a box. For the first 5 minutes\, write whatever comes to mind. Don’t stop to correct\, just record whatever pops into your head\, even if it’s something like\, “I have no idea what to write…” Each person shares what they’ve written\, free of commentary or criticism. \nThen\, for 10 minutes\, writers write what comes to mind\, perhaps an idea or a subject someone had just read aloud or something you wrote in the first 5 minutes will lead to a focus. The group shares again. Writers write for another 5 minutes and then share. \nYou’ll be surprised at the places you’ll go with the topics in these sessions. They give you an opportunity to express yourself\, they’re therapeutic\, and they often lead to a lot to talk about after putting your pens down.
