Mystic Schooners Baseball in Full Swing
7/7/15 The Mystic Schooners are just beyond the midway point of their 2015 season and hope to continue playing good ball. At 16-7, the Schooners are in 1st place in their division, 2 games ahead of the Ocean State Waves and Newport Gulls. 18 games remain on the schedule.
The Mystic Schooners is an elite level amateur baseball team in the Southern Division of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, consisting of players recruited from colleges across the country. Team members reside in the area with host families during the summer season. They play 42 games total, 21 of those are home games at Fitch High School.
If you haven’t caught them in action, you’ve been missing out! These guys can play. To give you an idea of their talent, five Schooners were selected in this year’s MLB draft: Garrett Kennedy (14th Round to the Dodgers), Brad Zunica (15th to the Padres), Nolan Long (16th to the Dodgers), Steve Laurino (25th to the Orioles), Alex Vargas (39th to the Astros).
The atmosphere at Fitch High can’t be beat. You’ll snag a prime seat in the bleachers or bring your own chair to sit in left field. The concession stand is a must visit with a hot grill, tons of snacks, Italian subs and SE CT’s own Heavy Hitters All Natural Thirst Remedy on sale…all at family-friendly prices! We saw a game on national cookie day, and the first 150 visitors received cookies complementary of Lis Bakery!
Seven home games remain on the regular season schedule. There’s a home game tonight at 6:05. Head on over and support your Schooners! Tickets are only $5 for adults – children 12 and under are free – and can be purchased at the gate.
